Dead Space game review video

Source: videogamesblogger.com

Dead Space on Xbox 360In the bold and often-bloody Dead Space gamers step into a third-person sci-fi survival horror experience that delivers psychological thrills and gruesome action. Set in the cold blackness of deep space, the atmosphere is soaked with a feeling of tension, dread and sheer terror.

In Dead Space, players step into the role of engineer Isaac Clarke – an ordinary man on a seemingly routine mission to fix the communications systems aboard a deep space mining ship. It is not long before Isaac awakes to a living nightmare when he learns that the ship’s crew has been ravaged by a vicious alien infestation. He must fight through the dead silence and darkness of deep space to stay alive.

How scary can zombies in space really be? “Very” according to this Dead Space video review.

To quote the IGN video review: “Call it science fiction survival horror, but Dead Space does the genre proud with an engaging story; action that’s tense, fast-paced and extremely violent; as well as atmospheric qualities that will get under your skin and make you jump. It may be a newcomer, but the seeds of an incredible franchise have been sown, and EA’s in a great position to reap a phenomenal franchise full of scares. If you like survival horror, action or sci-fi, Dead Space needs to be on your radar.”

The House of the Dead: Overkill announced for Wii with funny cheesy trailer

Sega today announced The House of the Dead: Overkill, an all-new pulp-horror reinvention of the classic Sega light-gun shooter franchise. Created by London-based studio Headstrong Games in partnership with Sega, The House of the Dead: Overkill will take you right back to the beginning of this classic horror series. Available exclusively on the Nintendo Wii early in 2009.

The House of the Dead: Overkill uncovers the ugly, terrifying, red hot secrets behind the House of the Dead; the daddy of all over-the-top shooters. While staying true to the classic gameplay this hugely successful Sega series is getting a new retro look, with distinctive graphics, sound and attitude that will add to its horror cool status. Plus, thanks to the Wii Remote, players will fight off zombies when they get too close; pistol-whipping jaws off and smashing in skulls with their shotgun butt.

“All those of a nervous disposition must look away now.” Watch the Grindhouse-themed The House of the Dead: Overkill trailer.

“We wanted to do something really different with The House of the Dead: Overkill,” commented Bradley Crooks, Studio Head at Headstrong Games. “With Sega we’ve been able to create a fresh look for the franchise. I think you’ll agree it’s like nothing you’ve seen before on Wii.”

“Paying homage to the pulp horror comics and films that inspired generations of gore fans, The House of the Dead: Overkill will expose gamers to a brand-new fleshy rollercoaster ride of revolting dismemberment,” commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director at Sega Europe. “This is the hardcore Wii title you’ve been waiting for.”

The House of the Dead: Overkill takes you back to when Special Agent G was fresh out of the academy. Teamed up with hard-boiled bad-ass Detective Washington, they are sent to investigate stories of mysterious disappearances in small-town Louisiana. Little do they know what blood-soaked mutant depravity awaits them in the streets and swamps of Bayou City…

The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return video review

Source: videogamesblogger.com

The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return to WiiTwo grisly titles from the popular House of the Dead series are being compiled into one action-packed horror shooter for the Wii. Both The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return feature the original arcade experience, complete with branching storylines, over six ghoul-filled game modes and bonus content. Re-live your glory days in the arcades and mow down packs of clawing, biting undead with the new rapid-fire Wii Zapper. Experience the popular arcade shooting action at home. Blast the undead with the quick trigger action of the Wii Zapper. Co-op gameplay. Grab a friend and destroy the undead together including Arcade mode and Original mode. Gory arcade graphics. The House of the Dead 2 & 3 retains the arcade graphics you love.

Does this game hold together or is the flesh starting to rot from these old bones? Find out in this House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return video review.

To quote the video review: “More than a decade since the series of horrifying light gun shooters first came to coin-op, there’s hardly a soul who hasn’t plunked a few quarters into a House of the Dead machine at the local pizza parlor or movie theater. Now, The House of the Dead 2 & 3 have been exhumed from their arcade cabinets to haunt Wii gunslingers.

Sega has brought these classics back just the way they looked originally, but we’re guessing that nostalgia has led you to believe they looked better. The eight- to 10-year-old graphics are extremely blocky and blurry by today’s standards, particularly in House of the Dead 2. The voice work and story are amazingly awful, with lines delivered in monotone or broken English that’s only fit to be laughed at. Players can switch between red and green blood as they desire, and the gaping hole you put in a fat zombie’s gut is still worth gawking at, but otherwise this is one awful looking and sounding game.

For better or worse, The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return is a faithful representation of the arcade classics, and players interested in reliving these titles again and again can grab a copy at a $30 price point. One can hope that with this and Ghost Squad already under its belt, Sega will stop digging up graves for the Wii.”

I completely disagree more with this score. As a fan of the arcade versions I think this is an awesome $30 budget port.
