As far back as January 2007 Capcom has been hinting at a sequel to the million-selling horror ‘em up Dead Rising. Today Dead Rising 2 was confirmed by a source in Canadian developer Blue Castle (of The Bigs fame).
The Eurogamer souce said: “Everyone’s really excited; the team has obviously seen the rumours and it’s been hard to keep quiet, but they can’t wait to show off the game.”
A spokesperson for Capcom Europe refused to comment on the matter. But with the game selling over a million on Xbox 360 alone and a Wii version subtitled “Chop Till You Drop” coming on February 27th next year, we’d expect the sequel to go multiplatform on PS3 as well.
Grand Theft Auto IV plus zombies for Halloween? Sounds like fun to me! Here is the word directly from Rockstar, developers of the massive car-jacking hit (note: This is exclusively for the Xbox 360 version of the game).
“Attention Citizens,
There is a virus sweeping through Grand Theft Auto IV turning many unsuspecting players into Zombies. If you’ve seen the special Zombie-with-yellow-briefs player skin running around during Grand Theft Auto IV multiplayer, then you may already know that the virus can be contracted in any and all multiplayer modes and is spread when an unsuspecting player kills someone who has the infection (BE ADVISED: The infected DON’T necessarily have to be wearing the Zombie skin, some show NO SYMPTOMS!). The signs of infection are:
- Access to the zombie skin
- Gaining the Achievement “Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie”.
With the all-new Viral Infection feature at the Rockstar Social Club, members can now see whether they are currently infected, the number of total global infections and the number of infections in the last 24 hours. Digging deeper, Social Club members can also browse a color-coded world map tracking the spread of the infection worldwide, including breakdown for all 50 US States.
The new zombie Downloadable Content addition was first hinted at in a Eugenics Inc. “ad” that appeared in the RockStar Social Club, issuing a vague quarantine order locking down the mysterious company’s compound due to a contagious disease outbreak. Eugenics Inc. is a physical location in Grand Theft Auto IV, located in Bohan, though it didn’t play into any part of the game up until today.
The quarantine announcement was actually the second Eugenics Inc. display to appear on Social Club, following a “Sperm for Cash” ad posted in April (now removed), which, to date, has never been an actual in-game activity.
So what are you waiting for? Fire up Grand Theft Auto IV for today’s festivities instead of handing out candy to those miniature bastards at your front door and get ready to kill some zombies!

A fast-paced rescue game with easy-to-play controls, The Last Guy uses real-life aerial maps of 14 cities around the world for its levels, including Asakusa (Tokyo, Japan), Los Angeles (America), and London (England). Within a set time limit, the player - who is the last hope for to save mankind from the zombies that are taking over Earth - navigates through the city map, gathering survivors hidden out in buildings along the way and leading them to a designated “escape zone.” As the player rushes around the level picking up survivors, a line of nervous people forms behind him and follows his every move around the level, scrambling back inside nearby buildings if a zombie gets too close.
The earth has been struck by a mysterious purple beam of light, and everyone touched by it has turned into a giant zombie. You are the chosen one and it is up to you to rescue the last survivors on earth by leading them to safety through zombie-infested streets. With a classic arcade style overhead view, make your way through detailed real-world cities and use your heat vision to find people hiding in buildings. Then lead them to the Escape Zone before time runs out in this frantic game.
Put on your cape and save humanity. Find out all about it in this The Last Guy video review.
The Last Guy’s key features are:
* Real Cities – Each stage is brought to life with real aerial photography of the actual city, with multiple levels of zoom to get the best view of the area to see where the survivors, and zombies, are hiding out.
* Zombies and Bosses – The Last Guy features 10 types of zombies and 4 types of bosses to avoid and outwit as the player races around the city rescuing survivors.
* Special Abilities – Utilize special powers such as dash to get away from zombies, thermography vision to see where people are hiding, a whistle to get your long line to huddle up and get out of zombies’ paths, and the ability to surround a cluster of people completely with a line of people and instantly rescue them all.
* Power-Ups – Take advantage of five kinds of power-ups to help complete each stage, including stamina boosts, freezing time, warping back to the Escape Zone, and temporary invisibility.
* Extra Stages – Players can unlock Extra Stages to play with super high scores.
To quote the video review: “There’s replay value here, but don’t expect to get 40 hours out of the game or anything; a few of the levels are scream-at-your-dog tough, but that just makes getting past them all the more rewarding; and although the art and graphics work for the title, they’re nothing to write home about. It should be noted that it can be difficult to play the game when you’re not sitting near your TV and that there are no Trophies to speak of in the title.
The Last Guy is an outstanding title that’s challenging, funny, and fresh. Yes, it’s a download and it’s rather simple looking, but once you get your hands on the controls and get to the point where you’ve tanked for the fifth time in a row and are plotting a path on the map overview before your next deployment, you’ll know why this game rocks. Plain and simple, The Last Guy deserves to have a place on your hard drive.”
Capcom is working on Dead Rising for the Nintendo Wii, the latest issue of the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has revealed. It’s a Wii port of the Xbox 360 million-seller. As gamers who played the Xbox 360 original Dead Rising may know, the zombie action game follows the harrowing tale of Frank West, an overly zealous freelance photojournalist on a hunt for the scoop of a lifetime.
It’s being developed in response to the strong sales of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, as a port it be the same game as the 2006 Xbox 360 version. Capcom promises they are trying to keep the Wii game as much as possible like the Xbox 360’s HD graphics.
Taking into account casual gamers’ needs, the game will be playable with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck and will feature new motion controlled attacks similar to those added to Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition.
In Left 4 Dead you fight off the epidemic of zombies with up to 4-players in this co-op FPS from Valve. At the E3 2008 Electronics Arts conference Valve boss Gabe Newell shared some new details on the gameplay. He also announced the initial character designs have been changed to match the characters with the new filmic effects being applied to the lighting and set design. Aside from Zoey up here, you can see all redesigns near the end of the video below.
Left 4 dead ships for PC and Xbox 360 on November 4th in America and on November 7th in Europe.
Left 4 Dead fact sheet:
* Co-op, first person horror game.
* Experience a scary action movie with your friends.
* Dynamic shared narrative achieved with procedurally generated character performance, pacing, lighting, and music.
* 1-4 players.
* Infected versus survivor mode.
* Counter-Strike-style weapons and items with melee attacks.
* 2-player split-screen, new matchmaking system.
* Left 4 Dead converges the following: Narrative and emotional impact of Half-Life + Social features of Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2 + Unique co-op gameplay = The next step in social entertainment.
* The Left 4 Dead Director creates / moderates the drama in real-time like a movie director.
Watch at 2:20 minutes into the following video presentation to see the experience of a Left 4 Dead group all beaten up, playing poorly while being low on health and ammo. The game’s automatic director makes the outcoming situation into a relatively easy encounter with few opponents.
The goal of Left 4 Dead is for the four survivors (played by you with three friends and/or bots) to help each other make it through a level to safety, while fighting off the infected, which are humans who have been infected with a mutated form of rabies. Alternatively infected players can cooperate to stop them. The 4-player co-op gameplay definitely looks promising in this zombie shooter that takes you through 20 levels — like a hospital, cornfield, airport and countryside — spread out over four scenarios that each last between 45 and 75 minutes.
In this video interview with Left 4 Dead project lead Mike Booth, the PC and Xbox 360 release date is confirmed as November 4th, 2008. You’ll also find out more on the new procedural enemy placement that offers “endless” replayability and the dynamic post processing (color contrasting) that brings the scares to Left 4 Dead.
Developer Enjoyup Games (of Chronos Twin fame) has signed a deal with Gammick Enter- tainment to develop the vertically scrolling shooter Zombie BBQ for Nintendo DS, the game is scheduled for release in October 2008.
Zombie BBQ’s storyline explains why Little Red Riding Hood must fry those zombies up! To quote: “Alter saving her grandmother from the claws of the Wolf and its army of the evil everything seemed to have gone back to normal. Nothing further from reality. With the recent and tragic death on combat of the woodman, an invasion of leper zombies endangers once again the peace in the world.
Zombie BBQ is a really fun shooter for Nintendo DS, where you have to move forward by shooting down every living (or dying) creature in your path! Use the great arsenal of weapons at your disposal to do away with the savage hoards of zombies. Shoot, blast, massacre, bombard and burn your enemies to the bone with a simple touch of your stylus on the console screen. Can you save fairy tale land or will you let its creatures live an unhappy-ever-after-life?” — Via MCV
What follows is a rough translation by cvxfreak of the Resident Evil 5 (BioHazard 5 in Japan) Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi interview from the below video. The first footage shows the developers examining Chris’ Resident Evil 5 character model on a PC. The original Biohazard was developed on older hardware, but in Resident Evil 5, the hardware allows for the character models to be adapted to various situations.
Africa confirmed - Or, at the very least, the village is modeled after an African village. Sunlight will be a focus of the game to achieve a new kind of feeling not done before. Chris at first can walk around the village with no one attacking him, but he sees two people attacking another and dragging the guy into the room. Chris follows in, and the action starts after the mutation. This is followed by more footage of Chris fighting the ganados. So far, it’s very similar to Resident Evil 4.
On Resident Evil 5’s system: Shinji Mikami’s Biohazard 4 is the base for the system, with evolutions and improvements planned.
Chris Redfield: Takeuchi was a staff member of the original Biohazard, of which Chris was a star of. Resident Evil 5 takes place 10 years after the original RE, and Chris has a new mission.
Weapon variation: Chris is up against a huge number of enemies. The game will have variation in weapons including series classics like the Handgun and Shotgun and such. The footage shows the developers examining a handgun character model.
Fight elements: The game will make use of the action buttons (QTEs) from Biohazard 4 once again.
Message to the fans: Fans have eagerly awaited prior titles and now await Biohazard 5. Capcom’s working hard on the game’s unexpected graphics, system and story. The Biohazard series has taken on various forms in its history. Presently a CG movie is also in works (Biohazard Degeneration) and that will be shown as well. There is a lot to look forward to in the Biohazard world this year. We will delve down into the story and characters of the Biohazard series, and thus this year will be filled with Biohazard. Please look forward to more information on the title this year.
Final word from Mr. Takeuchi: Wait for the Media Summit 2008 (E3 this summer).
