Xbox 360 to surpass Xbox 1 total sales of 25 million in November 2008 says Microsoft

The Xbox 360 system from no hdd, to hdd, to Elite. Click for big pic

Give credit to Microsoft where it’s due, sales of the Xbox 360 are projected to exceed the lifetime instal base of the original Xbox by November, where the Xbox 360 will surpass 25 million units sold.

In Microsoft’s own words: “By the end of this month, we expect our global installed base to reach 25 million units, surpassing that of the first Xbox,” said Mindy Mount, CFO of the Xbox business, at the BMO Capital Markets Interactive Entertainment Conference.

This is a big deal because of Microsoft’s huge investment, at a gigantic loss, to break into the video game market. Now we all knew that the Xbox 360 was a successful platform, but this proves that there is more interest in the Xbox than ever before, and an important milestone to be able to surpass Microsoft’s first console.

And this is only the start, Mindy Mount went on to say. That’s because “more than three-quarters” of a console’s lifetime sales are made when the system falls to the “sweet spot” price point of $199.99 or lower. Which is the price of the lowest-end Xbox 360 available, the Arcade, reports Edge.

According to Microsoft, recently introduced 360 price cuts saw Xbox sales jump 42% month-on-month in the States, 62% in Europe and 500% in Japan.

PS3 and Xbox 360 music game instruments compatibility list for Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Rock Revolution

World Tour on PS3Rock Band 2 on PS3Rock Revolution on PS3Rock Band on PS3

Michael Shorrock, Director of Publisher Relations at SCEA, announced on the PlayStation blog that PlayStation 3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility. This means that the titles with musical peripherals will work with the other’s software. Activision-Blizzard made a similar Xbox 360 cross-game instrument compatibility statement at their E3 press conference last month. It’s a big improvement over the past music game indstruments incompatibility. Below you’ll find their comments listed.

List of compatible PS3 games:
* Guitar Hero: World Tour’s guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Rock Revolution. Guitar Hero: World Tour also supports the SingStar microphones.
* Rock Band 2’s guitar and drum set will work with Guitar Hero: World Tour and with Rock Revolution. Rock Band 2 also supports the SingStar microphones.
* Rock Revolution’s drum set will work with both Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2.

List of compatible Xbox 360 games:
* Guitar Hero: World Tour will be compatible with the instruments for the first Rock Band. Other third-party guitar and drum controllers are expected to work with Guitar Hero: World Tour as well.
* Guitar Hero: World Tour plans to be compatible with instruments from Rock Band 2 as well. Since Rock Band 2 isn’t out yet, they haven’t been able to test those instruments with Guitar Hero: World Tour, but the fact that they hope to make it compatible could mean a cross-compatibility patch later on if it’s not already available at launch.
* Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, after a recent auto-downloaded title update, should make that game compatible with non-Guitar Hero guitars, including the Rock Band guitars.

Sony added that as far as further PlayStation compatibility goes, they are “still working hard to ensure compatibility between the Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles currently on the market, and we hope to have an announcement on that shortly.”

How to get Brett Favre’s uniform from Packers to Jets?
For online consoles (confirmed for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii) EA Sports will release a roster patch the Monday before the game is released in stores with all the changes that have been made in the off-season since the game went final. As a result, Brett Favre will go from a Green Bay Packer to a New York Jets. Just as Jason Taylor will be a Redskin instead of a member of the Miami Dolphins. The roster update is not mandatory – unless you are planning an online head to head game, or online league. A second roster update will be released before the start of the regular football season.

Get a new game box cover with Brett Favre in a Jets jersey.

Video Introduction: Getting started with Madden 09.
A run through of all the new features in this year’s game with tons of gameplay to explain each feature.

Madden 09 IQ Test demonstration video.
Madden NFL 09 is a game for the masses and is constantly monitoring your performance. No matter if you are a long-time Madden player or a rookie, an all-new Adaptive Difficulty Engine assesses your proficiency in the core skill areas of football, then tailors the experience to match your playing style. John Madden gives a demonstration of the IQ Tests for Rush/Pass Offense/Defense.

Madden 09 Play Tips On Rewind and Back Track at Locas Oil Stadium.
The rewind and backtrack features are two new Madden features that bring an entirely new dimension to gameplay. The rewind feature is essentially a football mulligan that lets you try a play over again if it fails. You can rewind any play, whether on offense or defense; however, as we found out, the CPU will not necessarily run the exact same play again when on offense. For example, we were defending a goal-line stand against the Steelers during one game, when Pittsburgh ran a sweep left with Willie Parker that resulted in a touchdown. After rewinding the game to try the play over again, we cheated our linebackers to the left, but the Steelers adjusted and put Parker up the middle, a clear case of the game being cleverer than the player. Rewind is an interesting feature, but it’s easy to see how using rewind too much could be tempting. Luckily you’ll be able to set the maximum number of times you can use the rewind in the game (or turn it off altogether).

The new backtrack feature seems more like a legitimate teaching tool in Madden 09. Here, the game will give you a full breakdown of a play that you blew, complete with on-field graphics and voice-over explanation from Madden 09 color analyst Cris Collinsworth (one half of the Madden play-by-play team, which also includes Tom Hammond). These backtrack moments will happen during one of three scenarios: 1) If you thrown an interception when another receiver is open; 2) If your quarterback is sacked when an open receiver is available; 3) If you make a bad play call. Further, a “bad play call” is defined as a pass defense going up against a run offense, or a run defense going up against a pass offense that results in a big play. The amount of information shown during these backtrack segments is impressive, including breakdowns of all of the players involved in the play and percentages of success that a particular play had for succeeding. If you pay attention to everything Collinsworth has to say about the play, you’ll have a good understanding of what you did wrong so that you might avoid that same mistake in the future.

More gameplay tips from the Madden 09 team.
Producer Ryan Ferwerda gives the lowdown on the features that make this year’s Madden is the best looking sports game in the series yet. The game’s got a new look and feel thanks to an enhanced graphics engine and new player models, lineman battle in the trenches with more bulky physiques while backs and receivers fly around the field with a more sleek and slimmer look. The game features the most realistic-looking grass and field turf ever in a sports game, new weather and stadium lighting effects, and active exterior stadium views.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ Hot Coffee class action suit dismissed by court

San Andreas for PS2The Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas‘ Hot Coffee class action lawsuit has been dismissed by the court.

The huge Hot Coffee San Andreas scandal broke out around July of 2005 after a sexual mini-game was found hidden on the game disc. It was made worse when Take Two originally denied it, thus lying about it. San Andreas was eventually recalled and given the elusive AO “Adults Only” rating before being re-issued by Take Two with the sexual code on the game disc removed (thus retaining it’s M-Rating).

You may recall that in November of last year, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York granted preliminary approval of a settlement of several class action suits against Take-Two. Take Two expected then to pay out up to $2.75 million for the settlement, pending Court approval.

Turns out that few actually filed claims. On July 31, the Court said that “the plaintiffs could no longer meet their burden of showing that the case could proceed on the proposed class basis” according to an SEC filing.

So now Take Two won’t be forced to write a check as big as everyone thought since they won’t have to settle the class action lawsuit filed over “Hot Coffee” claims. The court issued an opinion on the matter refusing to certify the proposed settlement class. Which means that the publisher of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas may not have to pay out a proposed $1.025 million in settlement benefits. Why not? It’s possible that there was no actual representative class. Which means, too few people were offended, or could agree to be offended in the same way, for the Court to see the class as worthy of getting paid over a million dollars.

Unreal Tournament 4 release expected alongside Unreal Engine 4.0 completion

Unreal Tournament 4 on Unreal Engine 4 expectation picture
Looking forward to the next next-gen (8th console generation) Unreal Engine 4.0 is expected to be released with Unreal Tournament 4 to show off its prowess, as with every new Unreal Engine comes a showpiece, usually an Unreal game. An example of this happened before the release of Unreal Engine 3, when Epic Games’ own projects — Gears of War and Unreal Tournament 2007 (later renamed to Unreal Tournament 3) — were touted as the company’s showcase titles for the latest Unreal technology.

Back in August 2005, Epic Games vice president Mark Rein revealed that the creators of the Unreal games and technology have already begun work [two years before in 2003] on what will eventually become Unreal Engine 4.

Unreal Tournament 3 for PCEpic Games boss Tim Sweeney, who’s been working on the Unreal Engine 4 core system design as the technical director, said in March 2008: “There is a long life ahead for Unreal Engine 3. [Unreal Engine] Version 4 will exclusively target the next console generation, Microsoft’s successor for the Xbox 360 [AKA Xbox 720], Sony’s successor for the PlayStation 3 [AKA PlayStation 4] – and if Nintendo ships a machine with similar hardware specs [AKA Wii 2], then that also. PCs will follow after that.” Mark Rein later clarified that Tim Sweeney meant that Unreal Engine 4 was coming to PC, and that “When Tim Sweeney was talking about Unreal Engine 4 … he mentioned something along the lines of it being exclusively for the next generation of consoles… what he meant was, it won’t run on this generation of consoles.”

For those interested, Unreal Engine 4 development will fully start sometime in 2008. With the next generation of consoles not expected to launch until around 2011-2012, it’ll be a while before you’ll be fragging photo-realistic enemies in Unreal Tournament 4.

So, you have everything there is to do with Xbox, huh? You have all of the accessories and all of the games you care to “give a chance”, but there’s one thing you probably don’t have. Xbox PJ’s, of course. Now if you say you’ve already got a pair, stop lying to yourself, because I know you never thought of this essential part of the Xbox “empire” of merchandising.

Yes, you to could be styling in your very own Xbox PJ’s. There’s no sarcasm here folks. ;) Nothing but pure unadulterated PJ happiness as the immense feeling of joy rushes over me as I realize what’s be missing in my life. No more worrying about having world peace, general news actually being news, celebrities finally being put in their place, or having Idiocracy actually come true. No! None of that matters anymore, when I get my pair of Xbox 360 Pj’s.

One word of advice for all. Head on over to and get your pair , because the world won’t be the same until Xbox not only rules your consciousness, but warms your legs to.
