To quote the video review: “What’s offered here is significant and wouldn’t have seemed out of place ensconced in a clear plastic box on store shelves. That it’s available to anyone with a broadband connection for an extremely reasonable price point instantly places Wipeout HD in the must-buy/must-have category for anyone who considers themselves a fan of high-quality, high-speed, white-knuckle racing.”

Overall — 10

WipEout HD ImprEssions

Source: ps3blog.net

I heard people having issues with the game freezing and online not working. But I didn’t have a chance to play this game until later last night. So maybe it was fixed by then, because I played for over a hour and it played flawlessly. I even tried online.

I created a game and I noticed there is a friend reserve type option. I thought cool, I can invite and reserve a spot for friends. But no, you can not, or I’m not seeing how to do it.

Anyway the gameplay is great, classic WipEout action in gorgeous 1080P. The have a few new weapons which are fun. The pilot assist mode is perfect for people new to the series, it helps steer you away from the walls. You can turn if off if you want. I finished the first 2 sections of the campaign, and got a few trophies for it already.

The photo above is from the zone mode which looks amazing in motion. The walls and street are just a huge music visualizer. You can see it in the photo. In the zone mode you are alone on the track and with each zone you clear your ship gets faster and the neon looking highway your on, changes color in front of your eyes, it’s a great effect! You just keep going until your ship takes enough damage to fall apart.

WipEout has been around since the PS1 days, I actually remember playing the demo that came with my brand new PS1 long ago before I got my first PS1 game (which was Twisted Metal for the curious).

I’m excited to put together a custom techno playlist for WipEout. In fact NeoGAF has already done that, check it out here.

In short buy this game. It’s a steal at $19.99. It’s everything you want in a futuristic racer and more.

WipEout HD Dated and Priced (US)

Source: ps3blog.net

WipEout HD has finally been giving a date and price, well for North America at least:

Your wipEout HD thirst will be quenched on September 25. Yes, that’s right, just 10 days from today. For just $19.99, wipEout HD will be available for download only and includes the following awesomeness:

* Full HD Visuals
* 5 Game Modes - Single Race, Tournament, Time Trial, Speed Lap and Zone Mode
* Online play that supports up to 8 racers competing on a track at a time
* 2-player split screen (horizontally and vertically) offline
* 8 reversible tracks and 12 teams
* Optional use of SIXAXIS motion controls to steer your ship
* A great soundtrack remixed in Dolby 5.1 AND the option for custom playlists that allow you to race to whatever playlists you have on your HDD
* And more, including Trophy support, which we’ll outline for you in a future post - so keep your eyes peeled.

That should be £9.99 when it finally hits the UK Store. I’m not sure if I’m tempted by that. I’m very choosy over which games I buy over PSN after I got badly burned with that pile of steaming crap known as Warhawk.

I’ve never really been a fan of racers or WipEout before anyway. Still, I know a lot of people are really looking forward to WipEout HD.

Joystiq looks at WipEout HD

Source: ps3blog.net

Joystiq takes a look at Wipeout HD in a very-recent incarnation, and they’re still liking what they see. If you’re a racing fan at all, this looks like one to pick up. I’m still wishing it had 4 player splitscreen though… )

New WipEout HD PS3 trailer

Source: videogamesblogger.com

WipEout HD (Screenshot) blazes to PS3 this fall

WipEout HD is coming to the PS3 via a PlayStation Network download this fall, as revealed in a new PlayStation Blog update by the developers who also revealed an all-new trailer for the Leipzig Games Convention 2008.

WipEout HD will feature a selection of the best tracks taken from previous versions of the iconic franchise that have been reworked to show-off the graphical capabilities of PS3, all running in a smooth as butter 60 frames-per-second in 1080p resolution!

And you better make sure that hand-eye-coordination is in tip-top shape, because you will be able to challenge the greatest anti-grave racers in the world via a slew of WipEout HD online modes!

Also included in WipEout HD will be Trophy support! All the better to brag to the online challengers who will be eating your dust.

In addition to the typical controls using the control sticks, the game will also have an option for Sixaxis motion controls that allows you to steer your ship by moving the controller.

Naturally the game includes a bevy of weapons with which to blast your opponents with, as well as plenty of different teams and ships to choose from, lots of online and offline racing modes and a fully Dolby 5.1 surround sound-supported soundtrack to get your blood pumping and your feet tapping. You can even add in your own music tracks to listen to while you race! Allowing for you to create a custom playlist on the PS3 XMB (CrossMediaBar) using your own music collection. Which is definitely a great feature for those who aren’t into the whole electronica vibe.

Now give a look at the new trailer!

WipEout HD delayed to end 2008 because of a technical issue

Source: videogamesblogger.com

Wipeout HD screenshot
Sony Europe boss David Reeves said in an interview this week that WipEout HD was absent from E3 2008, because it has been delayed to the end of 2008 due to a “specific technical problem.”

To further quote him: “There is a specific technical problem with WipEout that we have to solve. I can’t go into details but it is a really, really tricky technical problem that no region has been able to solve at the moment. I think it will come out before the end of the year but it is something that was just very difficult to get to grips with.”

Good Things about Wipeout HD

Source: ps3blog.net

VideoGamer.com got their slimy little hands on Wipeout HD and got to fly some tracks with it. And they like what they see!

There are a couple interesting aspects to the game you might not be familiar with if you haven’t been keeping up with the series on the PSP.

For example, the game contains magstrips. These pink sections of track “lock your craft in place so it doesn’t go flying into the air as you zoom through the elaborate track designs“. Sounds cool. You can also take pics and store them, and you can also listen to your own music.

But the coolest thing seems to be a race mode called zone mode. The goal is to survive as long as possible while your craft continuously increases in speed. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Gotta wonder if there’s any splitscreen support…

Last week of June: Buzz! expansion multi pack.

Wipeout HD Video

These video downloads are so huge that I haven’t downloaded it in any format yet. But this game is really cool and I hope to have one downloaded soon.

Gamersyde actually has a ton of viewing/downloading options. So even though this is a big file, one of them should fit the bill.
