Valkyria Chronicles review video (PS3)

Source: videogamesblogger.com

Valkyria Chronicles for PS3Valkyria Chronicles combines strategy elements of conventional tactical role playing games with real-time action sequences. The game is set in a fictitious continent reminiscent of 1930s, Europe divided in two and ruled by the Empire and the Federation. The Empire has set its sights on invading a small neutral country called Gallia, which is situated in the middle of the two great empires. The game follows a hero named Welkin and his fellow soldiers of the Federation’s 7th Platoon that are fighting against the Empire, who is intent on unifying the continent under its power.

Built upon the new “CANVAS” engine, Valkyria Chronicles’ ground-breaking 3D graphics resemble a watercolor painting in motion. Gameplay is centered around a new type of tactical battle concept. Known as “BLiTZ,” this battle concept gives players unique freedom to strategically move around the environment and attack enemies using real-time controls.

Aside from its looks, what makes this strategy RPG stand out? Find out in this Valkyria Chronicles video review.

Game features include:
* CANVAS graphics engine: Cutting-edge graphics engine producing breathtaking artwork fully leveraging the capabilities of the Playstation3. Creates images that look like watercolor paintings in motion.
* BLITZ tactical battle system: Experience strategic maneuvering of units as in conventional RPG gameplay; add the excitement of action games with real-time controls to command each player.
* Epic storyline: Players will immerse themselves in the epic struggle for freedom, as the fate of the world lies in the hands of Welkin and members of the 7th platoon.
* Customization: Over 100 customizable characters allow players to create a variety of platoons to suit each battle’s needs.
* Beautifully rendered battlefields: Players explore 30 different environments, using each terrain to gain advantage in battle.

To quote the GT video review: “From the opening sequence to the final credits, the visuals in Valkyria Chronicles never disappoint. Utilizing a unique cel-shading technique to create a wonderful watercolor, sketch book effect, there’s no other game that looks like it. The cutscenes feature both CG and in-engine work, but the difference is so minuscule that the style’s never compromised. It’s impressive, but not flawless, as the ragdoll physics are a bit overdone.

Comic book text appears to punctuate some of the authentic sound effects, and there’s wall-to-wall voice acting that really nails the script. Sega’s even included the Japanese dub. The score sets the tone, with several compositions standing out as some of the finer in the medium. If you’re looking for an RPG that strays off the beaten path, go buy Valkyria Chronicles. From the gameplay to the visuals, it’s one of a kind. It has appeal for both strategy heads and role-players who find high fantasy to be low on their interest scale.”

Valkyria Chronicles release date is November 11, 2008

Source: videogamesblogger.com

Valkyria Chronicles PS3 logo screenshotValkyria Chronicles for PS3 has gotten an official release date of November 11th, 2008 for the tactical RPG.

A few bits of new info have also been revealed regarding Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles. The game will include both the original Japanese voice overs track as well as the localized English voice track, for those who prefer to hear they’re RPG characters speak in their native Japanese with English subtitles.

It was also confirmed that the already released downloadable content in Japan will not be included on the actual game disc when the game launches in America. Which hopefully means we’ll still see the content in a digital download form of our own.

As far as the supposed PSP version is concerned, that actually came about due to a mistake during the Sony E3 2008 Pre-E3 Press Conference in which the in-game trailer was mistakingly shown on a PSP demo-reel. When asked if the developers will actually consider making a PSP version of the game, they sounded rather open to the idea, saying, “Well, you know, the response we got from that accidental announcement was very interesting. I’ll have to leave it at that for now”

Here is a video showing gameplay:

Valkyria Chronicles began life on Xbox 360

Source: seganerds.com

Many Sega Nerds without PlayStation 3s have gnashed their teeth over Sega’s decision to develop Valkyria Chronicles exclusively on Sony’s newest console. However, according to a former Valkyria Chronicles developer, the game was originally developed for the Xbox 360.

Actually, I was involved in the early days of the game’s development … back before I quit to draw erotic manga … Originally, the game was planned for the Xbox 360, but then later changed for the PS3.

Yeah, you read that right – he’s doing hentai now. Anyway, it’s no secret many multi-platform games are developed on the 360, then ported to the PS3, so we’re not sure why Sega chose to completely abandon its work and shift focus to Sony’s machine.

One possible reason is that the game was originally planned to only be released in Japan, and considering the Xbox 360’s lackluster sales in that region, Sega made the safe decision to develop the game on the PS3 exclusively. It might have been the near unanimous positive reception Western gamers gave Valkyria Chronicles that forced Sega to bring it our way.

Valkyira Chronicles Character Profile: Largo

Sega has released another profile trailer from their new tactical RPG, Valkyria Chronicles. This time of the big hairy manly man character Largo.

Check out this guy. I’d love to fill you in on the details, but your guess is as good as mine. I don’t know any Japanese so instead of me yapping on about it, go ahead and watch the big guy do his stuff!

Valkyria Chronicles gets a Japanese promo trailer

Source: seganerds.com

Even though Valkyria Chronicles isn’t quite as cool sounding as Valkyrie of the Battlefield, we have to say that we’re just happy Sega made the wise decision to bring PS3 exclusive our way. Apparently, Sega’s pretty excited about its newest upcoming RPG too as it just released this nearly eight-minute Japanese promotional trailer detailing even more gameplay footage of this exciting title.

Sure, all footage that we’ve seen thus far is in Japanese, but who cares? The game is amazing looking, right?
