EA has revealed that downloadable content will be coming for Mirror’s Edge in early 2009. The PC release of the game is also set for release in January of 2009.

Back in September Sony had reportedly snagged the exclusive rights to downloadable content on the PS3 version of the game (just as Microsoft snagged exclusive downloadable content for Tomb Raider: Underworld and Grand Theft Auto 4) but the press release from Electronic Arts makes no mention of the downloadable content being exclusive to any one version, which means Sony might have lost out on the exclusivity after all.

Mirror’s Edge is out now for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Here is the launch trailer for the PC version of the game.

Capcom has released the first 11 minutes of footage from the upcoming CG Resident Evil film, Resident Evil: Degeneration.

As you can see from the footage below, the film is really everything that a Resident Evil movie should’ve been as it feels a lot more true to the actual Resident Evil games than any of the live action films (for better or for worse, depending on your own tastes) and seems to be based off of Resident Evil 2, what with Claire and Leon running around blasting zombies.

Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is almost upon us! The game releases on November 25th, 2008 for Xbox 360 and PS3 via their corresponding download networks (Xbox Live and PlayStation Network).

However if you peep the official PlayStation Blog you’ll notice a lot of people complaining about the fact that Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix won’t include support for Trophies upon it’s release. Which comes as an incentive to download the Xbox 360 version over the PS3 version, since the 360 version has Achievements that you can unlock.

But now Capcom has “Hadouken!” those fools in the back with a new announcement:

Gamers who purchase the PlayStation Network version of Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will receive an exclusive album called “Street Fighter Underground Remix” that they can download for FREE! The album is seperate from the game, but will include hip-hop remixes of classic Street Fighter II songs from the likes of Redman, Hieroglyphics, DJ Qbert, DJ Toure, Zion I, Mistah F.A.B. and Oh No.

So now the dilemma has shifted a bit: If you buy the Xbox 360 version you can unlock Achievements to add to your GamerScore. But if you buy the PS3 version you will get the above exclusive soundtrack. OH THE HUMANITY! Of course, I’m sure Capcom would be happy if you just purchased both.

JoWooD has told Eurogamer that Arcania: A Gothic Tale (aka Gothic 4) has yet to be given a date, and revoked the “late 2009″ date that the game had previously been given from a spokesperson at the publisher. Although it could still arrive in 2009, this might mean that the game will be a 2010 or beyond release.

Thankfully though for Gothic fans, fans do have the Gothic 3 expansion, Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods, to satisfy their craving for new Gothic material, which is out now in the United States and is scheduled for release in the UK on December 5th.

Forsaken Gods is supposed to bridge the gap between Gothic 3 and Gothic 4. There isn’t a lot of details on Gothic 4 at this point, but we do know that it will be developed by Spellbound. It will also be the first game in the Gothic series to be released on consoles, as Arcania: A Gothic Tale is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in addition to PC.

Sadly, the third game in the series was almost universally panned due to it’s low-grade development by a little-known PC developer from India (Trine) (unhelped by the game’s prevalent bugs and glitches), instead of the original developer of the franchise, Piranha Bytes. So it’s to be seen if Spellbound will be able to return the magic to the series. Which has a passionate following, particularly in it’s country of origin (Germany), due to it’s alluring open-worlds that are packed full of ferocious action.

Gothic 4 will keep the fantasy tone and setting of the world intact with a story that is set around ten years after the events in Gothic 3. Some interesting aspects of the game will include the ability to control the day and night cycle via magic, and the ability to ride all kinds of beasts.

Tropico 3 has been picked up by Kalypso Media from Take-Two Interactive (previous owners of the license) for worldwide release in the summer of 2009.

The game is the third iteration of the famous and admired PC strategy game series and will once again be released for the PC (no announcement on other possible platform releases).

“The Tropico series is a great IP which we are excited to continue. The game will be the biggest project Kalypso has realized so far in its short history and we are focusing on achieving a worldwide PC hit with this brand. The acquisition of Tropico along with other key licenses is fundamental to our future growth,” says Simon Hellwig, Managing Director of Kalypso Media.

Tropico 3 is based on the first Tropico game and will be developed by Bulgarian studio Haemimont Games, who are also responsible for the development of Kalypso’s Grand Ages: Rome.

The game will attract the fans of the Tropico series, as well as newcomers with state-of-the-art graphics, complex gameplay similar to the other titles in the series and a comprehensive multiplayer mode.

You may recall us covering the Prince of Persia Stories & Secrets Storybook when it was announced. If you haven’t heard of the online graphic novel, it is a collaboration between Penny Arcade’s Gabe & Tyco and Ubisoft as a really cool promotion for their upcoming hit game, Prince of Persia (which releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on December 2nd).

The storybook serves several purposes, not only does it add to the universe by giving us a prequel to the game’s main story revolving around Elika, but the book also is simply a great excuse to let Gabe and Tyco run wild with their own interpretations and artistic realizations of the Prince of Persia world. And last but not least, it’s a treat for fans of Penny Arcade who are some of the most rabid gamers around.

In this video we get to see behind-the-scenes speed drawing by Gabe (along with commentary on the collaboration between Ubisoft and Penny Arcade) of one of the pages of the online Prince of Persia storybook, which is getting new pages added leading up to Prince of Persia’s release on December 2nd (so far ten pages have been released, including the cover).

In addition, Ubisoft has posted an incredible artistic introduction to Prince of Persia which you can watch on the Official Prince of Persia web-site. The intro is AMAZING and is like a pop-up book coming to life. I am not sure either if it’s the actual game intro or just something put up for the web-site. So if you want to avoid all spoilers (although it’s nothing that hasn’t already been said) then you may want to hold off on watching it.

ps3.qj.net - Trophies will be mandatory with all games starting in 2009. This doesn’t mean old games will get patched per say. But all new games will feature trophies.

I actually don’t have Linux on my PS3 anymore, but next year I’d like to upgrade my hard drive again to a 300 GB or so and put Linux back on. While I had Linux (Ubuntu actually) I didn’t use it much. But lately I wish I did have it just for general web browsing and chatting when the wife is using the other PC. Because the PS3 web browser still needs work. Sony just put Firefox on it and call it good.

I’m not sure if I’ll go with Yellow Dog Linux or Ubuntu. Ubuntu offers more support than Yellow Dog Linux. But YDL is made specifically for the PS3. Anyway here are the primary updates to YDL, and it’s now available for download.

I like the updates, the clubhouse is a great idea. The virtual PSP being axed is fine, it didn’t need to be there really. I see the reason for it, but not the best way to navigate menus within home.
