Street Fighter IV video blowout, including Balrog and Sagat

Source: thexboxdomain.com

It hasn’t been officially announced yet, but who would doubt that Balrog and Sagat wouldn’t be in Street Fighter IV? Then again, why not throw in Vega and M.Bison to boot. Next up are “the new challengers” right? Once Cammy and Fei Long are known to be in the game, this gamer will be frothing at the mouth of peaches and cream with extreme excitement.

Up top is a 3 minute gameplay compilation of the fighters as they have been revealed up until now. After the break are two video’s aken to Mystery Science Theater 3000, as they both are camcorder shots showing a test cabinet at an arcade of both Balrog and Sagat in action with several people walking in front of the shot. Until an official video is released, this is what we have for now. Enjoy!

Army of Two new trailer

Source: thexboxdomain.com

Did you forget about Army of Two? If so, this new video of the game (no gameplay seen) should refresh your memory. It was delayed at the very last minute last year in the flurry of releases that many are still trying to recovery from. Hopefully the extra development time was used wisely, as some reviews of the build that was originally going to be released weren’t to good. Here’s to it not disappointing.

Take a tour of the Alien Races of Mass Effect

Source: thexboxdomain.net

quarian.jpg

Mass Effect is probably one of the most intriguing titles for many reasons. It’s the first incredibly detailed RPG I’ve seen to date, arguably at least. It’s setting certainly sets it apart from other RPGs on the market. Microsoft is giving us all kinds of information about the universe of the game itself. What I like about this is, we are given glimpses as to what this title holds for us to explore. RPGs have always been about adventure and discovering new things. Here, we are given a straight up guide to the alien races of Mass Effect. Team Xbox layed out all the details for us. I would graciously like to post it up here for you all, however, that would have probably created one of the longest posts anyone in the blog world could ever see.

I will though leave you with a short snippet from that guide of one the races I find most interesting. This will certainly not be a title to miss as Mass Effect unleashes on the masses in November. See what I did there? Read more after the jump.

Quarian Migrant Fleet

The quarian Migrant Fleet includes several hundred warships, but due to their precarious existence, cannot be considered a creditable threat. The quarian military does not attack others; it defends the Fleet. Thus far, the Alliance has not been required to block quarian access to human-claimed systems.

Political Factors
The quarian government is an amalgam of ship-based representative councils and military dictatorship. Fleet operations are directed by the military. The Admiralty Board allows the civilian government to run society, but has the authority to overrule them in an emergency.

Economic Factors
The quarian economy exists at a subsistence level. The government is obliged to provide air, food, and water to every citizen to ensure survival of the species. The greatest quarian asset is technical ability. Quarians are skilled space miners, technicians, and mechanics, and are often hired by space industries seeking cheap, skilled labor. This frequently causes protests and riots among native workers.

Cultural Factors
The greatest influences on quarian culture are the creation and revolt of the geth and the loss of the quarian homeworld. In contrast to other races, quarians are reluctant to trust virtually- or artificially-intelligent machines, but they are far more likely to treat them as if they were living beings.

Biological Factors
Little is known of quarian biology. Like the turians, they possess a dextro-amino acid biology, and cannot consume human food. Outside of their own vessels, they always wear a protective, fully-sealed environment suit. No one has ever been allowed to board a quarian ship; they claim they cannot risk outside contamination.

Xbox Domain Hands-On: Rock Band

Source: thexboxdomain.net

733557551466ea5ec8e1b5.jpg

Without beating around the bush let me come right out and say it… Rock Band is awesome. It takes everything that Guitar Hero did right but multiplies it by 10. Our very own Jerome went out to EA to play Rock Band and he had a great time with it. I was a bit skeptical if I would like it because so much hype has been surrounding the game since E3 2007 but I must say that the hype was met.

I first wanted to get my hands on the guitar because I wanted to see how it compared to the guitar from Guitar Hero 2. While the Guitar from Guitar Hero 2 is good in it’s own way, the guitar from Rock Band just feels much smoother if that makes any sense. The buttons feel much tighter and I noticed my fingers weren’t getting bothered which is something I notice when I play Guitar Hero 2. What I also like about Rock Band’s guitar is the buttons wrap around the top of the guitar so you’re given much more space to hit the button.

composite_3.jpg

You can play two types of guitars in Rock Band. You can play the Lead guitar or Bass whichever one you choose. Lead Guitar is more for you show offs because some songs get sweet guitar solo’s. Don’t be mistaken in thinking that the Bass doesn’t play a major role in the band because it does. Alongside the guitar/bass players you can play Drums or take you hand as the lead singer. I didn’t try singing because I suck at singing so I really can’t comment on how that was but I know karaoke lovers worldwide will have a blast.

After I played some Lead Guitar and Bass I made my way to the infamous Drum Kit. I sat on the stool and tried to keep the beat. The song was “Dani California” and being the person I am my difficulty was set at medium because I figured how hard can this be? My Question was definitely answered, I was completely owned by Medium Difficulty on the Drums. Our Band failed the song(because of me mostly) so when we retried the song I brought my difficulty back down to Easy and I had a much better time.

If you thought being a guitarist was bad ass wait until you hop onto the drums. I was banging away having a blast(with a few drinks in me) and just feeling the music. I did notice that sometimes I was actually missing a certain drum(total lapse on my part) but I was having a good ole time with no complaints.

As EGM recently voted in one of their latest issues Rock Band is a great CO-OP title. If one person starts messing up on their instrument the whole band could be in danger of failing the song. One thing I like is the savior system. Let’s say for example you failed at playing the lead guitar during the song. You will probably be waiting for about ten seconds but if the rest of your band mates can continue to play well you will be brought back into the band. Be careful though because 3 failures equals you being kicked out the band, which leads to your band most likely failing the song.

In certain songs Freestyle Mode will come up and this is where you can really shine as a rocker. Your note scroll will light up(like a rainbow) and you can hit any notes you want which makes complete and utter noise but you will not be penalized. This freestyle mode is really great when you’re drumming because it’s always fun to bang away at drums am I correct?

Electronic Arts always displays Rock Band at events with big stereo speakers, high def televisions, but we all know that most gamers do not have this setup. This is my only gripe with Rock Band. Can everyone enjoy this game when possibly you don’t have the room to accommodate all this equipment? As for the game itself it’s Guitar Hero multiplied by ten and EA and MTV will make tons of money from this game come this holiday season. Is Rock Band good? No.. It’s great.

Digital Life 07 Impressions

Source: thexboxdomain.net

20773_1163692515.jpg

As a guy who was there to cover Xbox 360 games I must say the Digital Life convention had really nothing for me. Last year Microsoft had a dedicated section just for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade and it was awesome. It seems that Microsoft wanted to shift gears this year and focus on Games For Windows. When I saw people playing Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas(both 2006 titles) at this event I knew Xbox 360 wasn’t really going to have a strong presence.

So what was new? Ubisoft’s America’s Army and Red Octane’s Guitar Hero 3. What can I say about GH3? If you love part 2 you’re probably going to love this one as well as it keeps the same formula but adds better character models and new multiplayer features(Which I didn’t try by the way). We should have a Guitar Hero 3 interview in early October so watch for that.

As for America’s Army which is releasing next month(October) it didn’t really blow me away. If plays like a FPS Ghost Recon(It even includes the enemy red diamonds) but throws in something called “The Honor System”. For instance if you see your teammate injured on the floor you can drag him away from the line of fire to earn “Honor Points” which lets you unlock new/better weapons. Graphically it doesn’t look as good as a GRAW or Rainbow Six Vegas but I do see military fans looking past that and enjoying this game. If you like playing with your friends or against them it will support 16 player CO-OP and Versus modes.

Overall I was pretty disappointed as I thought this year was going to be great like last year but I was wrong. Come on Ziff Davis step your game up!

EA’s “Dead Space” looks promising

Source: thexboxdomain.net

I know Electronic Arts gets a lot of flack from people who hate them for their stronghold on the video game industry(plus 1 million other reasons) but they deserve some praise. I see some gamers are enjoying Skate and I know tons of people are excited for the release of the cooptastic game Army of Two later on this year. EA is also promising that their 2008 title Dead Space will try very hard to scare the hell out of you like no other game has. So what does Skate, Army of Two, and Dead Space all have in common? These games are all original IP’s from a studio known for it’s rehashing of franchises(Madden, Tiger Woods).

If you want more information on Dead Space make sure to visit the Official Website and pick up the latest issue of Game Informer. We’ll keep you updated on any Dead Space happenings.
