LittleBigPlanet Reaches Over 1 Million Levels!

Source: ps3blog.net

WOW is the word to use here (because your jaw hitting the floor and making a *thud* sound isn’t exactly a word). This is simply amazing! According to the developers:

Just think, this means that a new level has been published roughly every 21 seconds since LittleBigPlanet launched.

They have also mentioned that all the levels have been played a total of 244 million times. That’s plain ridiculous! If you haven’t yet played LBP, once you’ve played the superb in-game levels/story mode, check out the user generated levels! Some are awe inspiring and even better than the ones that came with the game!

Also of note, MediaMolecule will have an announcement on August 18th. Given the time period between now and then, it’s going to be some big news. LBP2? More LBP for PSP info? A different game all together? It’s to be seen, but until then, get on LBP and check out the 1 million plus user created levels! Original post located on the Official PlayStation Blog.

More Killzone 2 Napalm and Cordite DLC Details

Source: ps3blog.net

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, there’s going to be another DLC pack coming our way, entitled Napalm and Cordite. It includes the two new maps Suljeva Cliffside and Arctower Landing. Today, we have a few more morsels, including the above trailer.

Previously mentioned on the official blog was that the new DLC will bring two weapons into the multiplayer scene, carried over from single player. These are the VC1 flamethrower and Boltgun 4400 (my personal favorite). Here are a few details, according to the posting up on the official blog:

Both of these weapons radically alter the Killzone 2 multiplayer dynamic, delivering an experience that’s as fresh as it is intense. If you’re a veteran Killzone 2 online player looking to mix it up, or if you simply liked wielding these weapons in the single player campaign, Napalm & Cordite is your ticket. Look for it on the PlayStation Store July 23rd!

Now I just gotta find the money to get it! Also, IGN has an interview with Guerrilla Games about the upcoming map pack.

Burnout Paradise downloadable content coming up, both free and paid, to unlock more roads

Source: videogamesblogger.com

Burnout Paradise boxart wallpaper
Little over two weeks after the worldwide release of Burnout Paradise on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the developers at Electronic Arts and Criterion have announced downloadable content for the fifth Burnout racing game. In an MTV interview they made it clear the upcoming downloadable content would not split up the online community between buyers of the extra virtual concrete and freeloaders who would otherwise be left behind in the dust.

To quote the explanation: “It’s our intention to extend the life of Burnout with additional DLC in the near future. As mentioned, we don’t want to split the online community between those that have content and those that don’t. Our intention is to offer both free and paid for DLC in a way that enables everyone to ’see’ the content, even if they have not paid for it.” Electronic Arts wouldn’t explain how they intend to execute this approach to downloadable content distribution. I’m guessing this might mean non-payers can drive the new roads, but not unlock any new achievements nor events, or perhaps you can see the road but not drive due to roadblocks it until you pay up in-game?

PS: If you click on that Burnout Paradise boxart picture above, you’ll get the fullscreen version I’m using on my desktop right now. I got it off the Burnout Paradise wallpaper page.

Project Gotham Racing 4 Peugeot Flux screenshot
Two new downloadable content packs will launch on Thursday February 14, 2008. The first is the Free Challenge Pack, and includes the Peugeot Flux as well as two new game modes. The second variant is the Premium Challenge Pack. This one includes everything that’s in the free pack, plus a bunch of new vehicles (cars and bikes), and a new World Challenge Arcade Mode. It’ll set you back 400 Microsoft Points (that’s US$5 / €4.80 / £3.40 / CAN$6.20 / AU$6.60). I suppose is the developer’s way of saying they love their fans on Valentines Day! ;-) Here are the full details:

Project Gotham Racing 4 for Xbox 360Free Challenge Pack (free): “Download the new Free PGR 4 Challenge Pack from Bizarre, and you’ll drive the hydrogen-powered 2007 Peugeot Flux, winner of the 2007 Peugeot International Design Competition. Plus, you’ll get two new game modes-one of them the player-requested Tourist Mode, which lets you tool around any city in the game checking out sights with your friends. Or play Free Roam Cat and Mouse, where a slow mouse vehicle must avoid enemy cats. And you add another 10 achievements. Get more racing fun for the best price-free!”

Premium Challenge Pack (400 MS Points): “The Premium PGR 4 Challenge Pack from Bizarre, available for 400 Microsoft(r) Points, gives you seven new cars-the 2008 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Concept, 2007 Volkswagen Golf GTI W12-650, 2007 Peugeot Flux, 1987 BMW M3 E30 DTM, 2007 Ferrari 430 Scuderia, 2008 Honda S2000 CR, and 2008 Callaway C16 Speedster. You get three new bikes-the 2007 Yamaha YZF-R1, 1995 Aprilia RS 250, and 1998 Aprilia RSV 1000 Tuono R.

Plus, new World Challenge Arcade Mode gives you 20 arcade events in 3 themed chapters, including 5 events that can only be done on platinum. In Tourist Mode, get a free ride with friends around any game city. In Free Roam Cat and Mouse, a slow mouse vehicle runs from enemy cats. Ten new achievements fill out the pack.”

Here’s the list of new achievements both packs include (10 in total, although 3 are only available to owners of the premium pack).

1. Tourist Kudos King – Earn more kudos than anyone else in a Tourist event – 15 points
2. Open Cat Champion – Be a cat on the winning team in a Cat and Mouse Open Event – 15 points
3. Open Mouse Master – Be a mouse on the winning team in a Cat and Mouse Open Event – 15 points
4. Platinum Plus – Get all the platinum medals in the Platinum Plus Challenge – 60 points (earnable with Premium Challenge Pack)
5. Download King – Complete the DLC Challenge chapter – 60 points (earnable with Premium Challenge Pack)
6. Arcade Challenge- Complete Arcade Challenge chapter – 50 points (earnable with Premium Challenge Pack)
7. Cheater- Activate one of the cheats in the cheat menu – 5 points
8. Make the Grade – Attempt to qualify for a Tournament -10 points
9. 01 Yee Haw: Puzzle 4 -10 Points
10. Are You the One? Puzzle 5 -10 Points

Here’s the game modes breakdown:

World Challenge Mode is a new option that appears in the single player menu. It contains 20 arcade events split into 3 themed chapters:

1. Platinum Plus – Arcade chapter that is harder than Platinum difficulty
2. DLC Challenge – Arcade chapter that limits vehicles to the Premium Challenge Pack cars
3. Arcade Challenge – Similar to the shipped Arcade mode

Free Roam Cat & Mouse (Online Race) Mode: Played in an open city, Free Roam Cat & Mouse is a team based game where each team has a slow ‘mouse’ vehicle, with the rest of the players in high powered ‘cat’ vehicles. The mouse earns kudos for every 2 seconds it avoids being hit by enemy cats. On being hit by a cat the mouse is ‘wasted’ and can’t earn kudos for set period of time. Cat players get a kudos reward for hitting an enemy mouse and also for defending their own mouse. The team with the most kudos after a time period set by the host wins the event.

Tourist (Online Race) Mode: This is a simple mode our forum users have requested. Players drive round an open city for a period of time determined by the host. The player with the most kudos is determined the ‘winner’, but this is really a sandbox mode where players can drive around looking at the environment and making their own games up.

Bizarre Creations also mentions they’ve added a new cheat to the game: TV Cameras. This can be accessed from the options menu, and allows you to drive around whilst viewing the action from the trackside cameras. This was an option in older Bizarre racers, and is now back by popular demand. Thanks for suggesting it folks!

Why you can’t play Wii Virtual Console games directly off an SD memory card

Source: videogamesblogger.com

2000 Wii Points Card for use on the Virtual ConsoleA Nintendo customer service representative was asked why you can’t play downloaded Wii Virtual Console games directly off of the SD Card. You know, instead of having to either delete games then re-download them, or save games onto the SD cards and then transfer them back later on. His answer clears up any confusion you might have and at the same time makes our cries for a Wii USB Hard Drive even louder, since it could easily fit under the Wii to replace the stand. Anyway, his answer was:

“I don’t know if you’ve transferred any games from your Wii memory to an SD memory card. If you have, you’re already aware that it can take a long time. The data access speeds for the SD memory card are so slow that running a game directly from a card would be full of delays. For fast data transfer speeds, it’s necessary to have the game data reside in the system memory.

As players continue to download Virtual Console games, the Wii console’s internal memory will fill up. However, it’s important to note that the actual downloaded game and the license to have that downloaded game on your Wii console reside in two separate areas of your Wii Internal Memory. The game resides in the Channels section while the license is kept in your Wii Shop Channel account.

What this means to you is that once you’ve beaten a Virtual Console game, feel free to delete it to make room for another game. If at any point you decide to play it again, access the Wii Shop Channel and download it again. It is possible to delete and re-download purchased Virtual Console games as many times as you like for free, even if you were to re-format the console. This will allow you to free up the space you need for game saves and new Channels indefinitely.

The only way to delete or lose the license is to delete your Wii Shop Channel account entirely, which would then delete the licenses of all the games you’ve downloaded,” quotes Nintendoeverything.

Why you can’t pay with exact change on Xbox Live Arcade

Source: videogamesblogger.com

1600 Microsoft Points Card for use on Xbox LiveXbox 360 group product manager Aaron Greenberg was asked why you can’t pay exact amounts for content on Xbox Live Arcade. His answer clears up any confusion you might have:

The reason why we do that, the core reason, is around credit card transaction fees. If we do this in bulk, we don’t have to burden the consumer with the transaction fees, or ourselves or publishers. It’s about keeping infrastructure costs down and I know sometimes it’s frustrating because you end up with odd points, but we don’t have any plans to change that,” quotes 1UP.
