BUZZ! and Fight Night Spaces arrive in PlayStation Home

Source: ps3blog.net

The BUZZ! space actually looks pretty fun. I know I’ll be trying that out. Would be cool if down the line you could host a private event. Doubt that would happen, but just a thought. I can see this space being very popular. Hopefully it’s not hard to get into a game like some other Home spaces …

Here, you can meet up with friends new and old and take part in a massive 64-player game of BUZZ! trivia. This content is fed into the space via MyBuzzQuiz.com – a site where you can create your own trivia questions for your fellow BUZZ! fanatics to tackle. So be sure to create an account and start uploading your trickiest trivia. Then get your butt into Home, hook up with your brainiest peeps, enter the BUZZ! HQ, and start racking up the prizes. Rest assured that we’ll be taking advantage of this sweet new space by regularly scheduling some truly awesome events.

The robot boxing looks interesting. Nice to see more updates on a consistent basis. Club DJ doesn’t really interest me, but the mini golf might be good.

This swanky boxing-themed night club space launches with an interactive DJ game, rewards, and plenty of places to chill with your nearest and dearest Home-boys and Home-girls. Note that this is just phase one of the Fight Night space (there are tons of mini-game updates and the new virtual items scheduled for near future deployment)

Looks like Namco Museum Essentials will be available too. If you haven’t downloaded this from the Asian PlayStation Store, do it it’s great. You can unlock arcade cabinets for your Home apt, clothing, items for your apt, etc.

Jack Thompson attacking Buzz! The Schools Quiz

Source: videogamesblogger.com

Buzz! The Schools Quiz used in classThe American lawyer Jack Thompson still feels the (violent) content of games and their alleged effects on children are negative, even though they are not as long as the person playing knows the difference between what’s real and fake. But I digest, because he’s at it again. This time Jack Thompson has criticized Buzz! The Schools Quiz, claiming teachers should concentrate on traditional teaching methods instead. Yes, he’s now attacking additional teaching tools, claiming Sony are just using them to get PlayStation 2’s into schools.

The reason this is a lie is because Buzz! The Schools Quiz is a self-funded project by Buzz! developer Relentless, and has proved both successful and popular in schools around the country. To quote the developer’s website: “Buzz!: The Schools Quiz is not a replacement for teachers but we hope it will be a useful and fun tool for teaching.” It features around 5,000 questions based on the Key Stage 2 Curriculum and is available in both shops and schools. Back when I was in school I bought these sort of tests on CD-ROM to play on my PC to help prepare better for exams.

But Jack Thompson claims: “videogames have hurt far more people than they have helped, I don’t see how they can be of any more benefit than normal teaching.” Educational psychologist Jane Healy also has her head up her ass and agreed: “If you watch kids on a computer, most of them are just hitting keys or moving the mouse as fast as they can. It reminds me of rats running in a maze,” quotes Eurogamer.

The Halo 3 BETA buzz continues

Source: thexboxdomain.com

New0001

A gamer who goes by the name New0001 apparently has the fast track on all of us eager to get in on the recently announced Halo 3 Beta. The user Violen317 on the IGN forums stumbled onto a few gamertag’s on the public Xbox Live ( yes I said public) playing a nice little  game of  “Pimps at Sea (Alpha)”.

What is “Pimps at Sea (Alpha)” you might ask? If you frequent Bungie.net you might recognize this as a long running joke by the fine folks who are responsible for one of Xbox’s greatest franchise’s. Whether or not “Pimps at Sea (Alpha)” is indeed Halo 3 we still have a ways to go to get our grubby little hands on it for ourselves. Where’s that Flux Capacitor when you need it?
