Games to miss the holiday season?

Source: ps3blog.net

I’m am currently playing through 2K’s excellent BioShock (I’m even about to finish on survivor and earn all the trophies) and my attention turned to the sequel and I realized its one of many games getting delayed until next year or at least next fiscal year. Here’s a full run down of the big games that are no longer scheduled for the Holidays;

Fiscal year 2010 (could still make this year)
BioShock 2
Red Dead Redemption

2010
Mag
Singularity
Dead To Rights: Retribution

This should at least help you decide what to buy in the always busy Holiday period but still disappointing when games get delayed.

BioShock for PS3The first BioShock 2 teaser trailer has been uncovered by VG247. The video is unlocked after you complete the new PlayStation 3 version of BioShock. It shows a more grown up Little Sister with Big Daddy plushy in hand, standing at the Atlantic Coast staring out into the ocean as a city (that looks like Rapture) emerges from the beach floor.

The game has received a subtitle as well, now being called BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams. The FPS survival-horror sequel will likely appear on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC and has been confirmed for release in August 2009.

BioShock movie
After the game’s release in August 2007 industry rumors suggested a film adaptation of BioShock would be made, using similar green screen filming techniques as in the movie 300 to recreate the environments of the failed underwater utopia Rapture. This week 2K Games confirmed a deal with Universal Pictures to produce a BioShock movie! The movie will be directed and produced by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) and written by John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator and Sweeney Todd). The expected release date and terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

BioShock 2 release date confirmed for August 2009

BioShock for Xbox 360After BioShock’s success in both gameplay quality and sales of 2 million, BioShock 2 seemed like a shoe-in. Now Take Two has confirmed that BioShock 2 will be released in fiscal Q4 2009, which is somewhere in between August-October 2009.

Take Two hasn’t set Ken Levine’s 2K Boston (formerly Irrational Games) to work on this one, preferring recently-formed studio 2K Marin. But Mr. Levine “will be working on Bioshock 2 and he will be working on a new IP.” — Via Eurogamer

BioShock 2 is a prequel?

Source: videogamesblogger.com

BioShock on Xbox 360BioShock publisher 2K Games wasn’t shy about confirming BioShock 2 and more sequels were being planned for the new franchise every two years, especially after the huge critical and financial success BioShock turned out to be (it shipped 1.5 million copies worldwide at launch).

Murmurs from CVG sources close to the developer now claim the FPS PC & Xbox 360 game sequel is currently in pre-production and that BioShock 2 will take place before the events of BioShock. If it’s indeed a prequel, then expect the next game to take place during the events surrounding the fall of Rapture, the underwater “utopiaâ€? city that acted as background to the first game.
