Bionic Commando Rearmed review video

Classic side-scrolling gameplay is reporting back for duty with Bionic Commando Rearmed for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC, it’s a remake of the classic NES game. 20 years after the 8-bit classic was released, Bionic Commando Rearmed recreates the world of the original with a complete “2.5D” visual revamp. Bionic Commando Rearmed preserves the original’s mix of swinging and shooting in an intense 2D side-scroller, all to the tune of a brand-new soundtrack based on the classic 8-bit music from the NES masterpiece.

But Rearmed is far more than just a remake - it features all-new modes such as the 2-player co-op play, smarter enemy AI, new bionic arm abilities, new weapons, bigger bosses, online rankings, a frenetic multiplayer mode for up to four players, and a series of over 50 devious challenge rooms to test your swinging skills. Faithfully sticking to the original story, Bionic Commando Rearmed tells the story of Nathan “R.A.D.” Spencer’s first mission, sent in to retrieve captured agent Super Joe from the hands of the Imperials. Fans of the original story can expect to see all the characters from the NES version, as well as the memorable moments that made the title so popular with fans.

Does the series swing back into the spotlight? Find out in this Bionic Commando Rearmed video review.

To quote the video review: “At $10, Bionic Commando Rearmed is a steal. It’s one of those games that feels organic to play. There are certainly some hangovers from the age the game was originally released in, but its stylized production values and challenging gameplay will get you hooked. It would’ve been great to play co-op online with friends but there’s so much content for the money that we’re not about to complain.”

Bionic Commando: Rearmed sells 130,000 times in 1 week

Bionic Commando: Rearmed has sold 130,000 downloadable copies in only 1 week says Capcom! That’s quite the achievement for a downloadable title and Capcom has to be quite pleased to see the remake of their classic NES game do so well.

The game is available for PC, Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network and sales were across all three platforms.

Producer Ben Judd was quite elated and had this to say:

“Holy fiddlesticks,” Judd proclaims in his post. “That may not seem impressive compared to package titles that sell in the millions but compared to other digital titles that is a friggin’ JUGGERNAUT!

“And while, it’s great to have my first title be not only a critically acclaimed one but also a financial success, there is a bigger picture at play here that we need to look at. Consumers voted with their dollars. They basically have sent the message loud and clear:

We are tired of meta-emulated crap.
We want the titles of yesteryear to be paid the proper respect.
We want them done right.
And if the price is right, we’ll buy.”

Personally I think it’s great to see Bionic Commando: Rearmed doing so well. Hopefully it’ll help to raise the bar for remakes of classic games even higher. And not only that, I hope it makes Nintendo and Capcom both realize that Bionic Commando SHOULD come to the Wii Virtual Console! Forget anything that’s already happened, it’s such a classic that the game simply MUST come!

Bionic Commando: Rearmed new features unvealed, includes Remote Play

Bionic Commando Rearmed gets new PS3 features

Bionic Commando: Rearmed is heading PS3 via the Playstation Network on July 24th (it’s also coming to Xbox Live Arcade).

But for those who were thinking about getting the Xbox 360 version, you may wanna change your mind, as exclusive new features have been revealed for the PS3 version that are worth taking a look at.

The biggest addition is Remote Play! Remote Play allows you to play your PS3 game of Bionic Commando: Rearmed from anywhere using a wireless Internet Connection. According to the developers, the game looks quite nice on the PSP’s screen, since the classic side-scrolling gameplay fits well on a handheld. They also said the feature wasn’t easy to add, and they had to come up with some creative ways to re-work the controls to work with the PSP since it lacks a second control stick.

The PS3 version of Bionic Commando: Rearmed will also feature Dualshock 3 support for rumble capability. In addition, the developers said there is one more surprise for the PSN version that they are still keeping underwraps. I’d be surprised if it was something other than Trophy support, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Check out this trailer showing the evolution of Bionic Command from the old-game to Rearmed, followed by a newer trailer for Bionic Commando: Rearmed.

Bionic Commando Co-op Gameplay

Source: ps3blog.net

Bionic Commando Rearmed is an upcoming PSN downloadable title that, if I remember correctly, will go for about $10. The cool thing about the game is that it has a co-op mode. Yay!

Unfortunately, for those of you who care about this kind of thing, co-op is not available online, just offline. Meh. It’s more fun that way anyway.

It’s cool that this game supports four player gameplay, but unfortunately it’s not to go through the campaign together. At least it’s something!
