In what comes as a surprise to absolutely no one, Gears of War 2 for Xbox 360 has sold over 2 million copies worldwide in it’s first week on store shelves. No surprise because, outside of perhaps Fallout 3, Gears of War 2 has been one of the most anticipated Xbox 360 games building up to it’s release, and the original Gears of War was a massive hit.

If you need help with the game, be sure to check out our Gears of War 2 codes, cheats, game help and achievements list.

Gears of War 2 for Xbox 360About the game
The gears of war continue to turn as Marcus Fenix and his squad of Cogs go back into action in the sequel to Microsoft and developer Epic Games’ blockbuster action title. Gears of War 2 continues the story of Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad, locked in an increasingly desperate battle against the nightmarish Locust Horde for the survival of humanity. The game promises to be an epic saga of survival, loss, and retribution. Just as Gears of War set the standard for high-definition visuals, Gears of War 2 raises the bar even further with the amazing technological advances of Unreal Engine 3, delivering a bigger, badder, and more intense experience as the story continues.

Here are a few interesting numbers that Microsoft released:

* over 1.5 million players had their stats tracked by Xbox Live over the weekend as they played Gears of War 2
* Those 1.5 million played a combined 15 million hours worth of the game.
* Over 19 million worth of Gears of War 2 achievements have been unlocked!

Just for fun, here’s a very cool “Death Montage” video from Gears of War 2.

Far Cry 2 sells 1 million copies worldwide

Source: videogamesblogger.com

Far Cry 2 on Xbox 360The latest first-person shooter from Ubisoft, Far Cry 2, has done great for them, selling one million copies worldwide in just under three weeks across the three platforms the game was released on (Xbox, 360, PlayStation 3 and PC).

Which is always good news for publishers due to the economic slowdown and the fact that that there have been several huge releases vying for the wallets of gamers everywhere, including the likes of Gears of War 2, LittleBigPlanet, Fallout 3, Spore, Mirror’s Edge, Call of Duty: World at War and Resistance 2.

Far Cry 2 is the sequel to the original Far Cry (released way back in March of 2004) and this time is set in the planes of Africa with a new storyline, new characters and an open world complete with realistic fire that can burn anything in your path.

Far Cry 2 got pretty good reviews from video game publications and has a rating of around 86% for all versions on gamerankings.

Folding@Home PS3 cancer-research project surpasses 1 million users worldwide!

Source: videogamesblogger.com

PS3 Folding@home screenshotThe Folding@Home PS3 project has reached over 1 million users!

This is a huge milestone for the Stanford University cancer-research project that anyone with a PS3 can take part in! The numbers equate to roughly 3,000 PS3 users registering for Folding@home PER DAY or 2 new registered users every minute worldwide! The project was launched for the PS3 on March 22nd 2007 and, as the numbers attest, has seen tremendous success.

“Since partnering with SCEI, we have seen our research capabilities increase by leaps and bounds through the continued participation of Folding@home users,” said Vijay Pande, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University and Folding@home project lead. “Now we have over one million PS3 users registered for Folding@home, allowing us to address questions previously considered impossible to tackle computationally, with the goal of finding cures to some of the world’s most life-threatening
diseases. We are grateful for the extraordinary worldwide participation by PS3 and PC users around the globe.”

Folding@home aims to understand protein folding and misfolding, and how these are related to diseases and many forms of cancer. When proteins do not fold correctly, there can be serious consequences, including many well-known diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s disease, and many cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

Prior to the inclusion of PS3 in March 2007, the Folding@home project leveraged the distributed computing power of personal computers from around the world. Now a network of roughly 10,000 PS3s can accomplish the same amount of work as a network of 100,000 PCs, and have the ability to perform research simulations in weeks rather than years. In fact, it took just six months after PS3 joining Folding@home for the project to surpass a petaflops (*1), a computing milestone that had never been reached before by a distributed computing network. On September 16, 2007, Folding@home was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s most powerful distributed computing network.

Currently PS3 users make up approximately 74 percent of the total teraflop computing power of the Folding@home project. For more information, please see official Folding@Home website.

Kane and Lynch sells 1 Million Copies… no really

Don’t you love it when a “Average” at best game can still sell 1 Million copies? It’s like “50 Cent:Bulletproof” all over again.Gamedaily has the news on the shocking report.

I completed the single player of Kane and Lynch and to me the game just felt very average. The aiming system is unstable and the hit detection is ways off. The “Fragile Alliance” multiplayer mode is fun when played correctly. I hate the little punks who just start killing everyone in the beginning of the game for no apparent reason.

Reminder: “Fragile Alliance” is supposed to be your teammates and you working together to kill the cops and steal money. When you see one of your fellow Mercs heading to the getaway van, then you can pop them and steal the loot… UGH!
