TGS Sony Keynote Details

Source: ps3blog.net

2009

It seems that Sony is going to break their keynote for TGS into 2 parts.

The first part is a keynote from Kaz Hirai titles “Sony Computer Entertainment New Tactics 2009″. With a title like this…you can’t but think there will be some big announcments. One wouldn’t title a keynote this and release a few PSN games.

The second part is going to be a panel discussion titled “Visions and strategies of the top publishers in the golbal era” featuring SCE (Yoshida and Kaz), Square Enix’s President, Capcoms President & CEO as well as Namco’s President.

This will take place on September 24th from 10:30-12:30am (not sure what time zone, probably Japan)

Pixel Junk Shooter – GIANT ENEMY CRABS!!!

Source: ps3blog.net

1

The amazing puzzle solving, horribly named Pixel Junk game is back with a newer demo then what was previously shown at E3, this time with Co-op. I’ve not confirmed if it is local or online as of yet however.

…and yea I know…it might be a Spider instead of a Crab…but who could turn that down?

Konami ID’s Going Away

Source: ps3blog.net

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010

Yes, Konami ID’s are going away. Starting with the release of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010. What about games that already use the ID? Konami has no plans to patch old games.

Most popular game to use the Konami ID is Metal Gear Online. If your letting the Konami ID stop you from even trying the game. You are missing out. Good news if there is a Metal Gear Online 2 it should be Konami ID free.

Comic-Con news: New playable character revealed in Uncharted 2

Source: ps3blog.net

The PlayStation booth on the floor has a three man game of capture the idol, the same type of co-op mode that was featured in the beta. This time though, Nathan, Elena and Chloe run around the courtyard level with the church in the middle, instead of the one with the shack houses and bamboo. Hidden somewhere in the level is a big gold doo-dad that needs to be retrieved, but between you and the treasure are a bunch of enemies.

The idea is pretty simple. Players run around, shooting, and beating the crap out of the bad guys, and a cursor shows them which direction the treasure is. It’s Uncharted though, so that usually involves climbing up the side of a building. The level was terribly big, so it didn’t take much time for me to run and gun my way to the treasure, snag it, and start dragging it back. Players are able to lob the hunk of gold like they would a grenade, which makes it easier to get down from the high ledges, as well as getting the treasure up onto higher areas (the drop point was two stories up).

What made the mode more interesting was that after players win the round, it starts again, but with a few twists. First there’s a bonus meter at the top of the screen, with a countdown timer. If players can snag the treasure again within the time limit they get major bonuses, which, according to the Sony rep, will be helpful for buying upgrades in the shop.

It’s not as easy as it sounds, though. The enemies get harder with each successful round, and soon start to acquire new weapons like the sniper rifle. Their fighting skills also get a lot better. Trying to heavy combo a level three bad guy resulted in him choking my character to death. Players can shoot the guy off of their teammate (but these schmucks at Comic-Con can’t aim).

If you do get shot or punched out, the character drops to a kneeling position, while a timer counts down. If a teammate can get to you in time, they’re able to revive you, kind of like in Left 4 Dead.

Sony has said the co-op multiplayer will feature teams of up to five people, and will have modes that include two of these teams, for a total of 10 players.

One last little bit of news from Comic-Con. Sony is giving out download codes to unlock Navarro as a multiplayer character. This has the potential to mean many more multilayer only characters. Jak please?

From IGN

U2 sounds like it’s shaping up to be game of the year. I didn’t think U2 needed multiplayer initially, but now I’m all for it…even if I’m just going to get shot up alot. :)

Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time Comic-Con Edition

Source: ps3blog.net

A continuation of our favorite Lombax and co-starring robot friend seems to be getting a pretty nice graphical upgrade. Many people are comparing the graphics to be Toy Story-esque in alot of the pre-rendered images.

From what I’ve read, it seems they will be concentrating on a lot of puzzles that could potentially be tougher then the ones in the games previously.

I’ve never been a “huge” fan of this game. I’ve played them and enjoyed them, but this one has surely caught my eye.

Castle Crashers Announced for PS3

Source: ps3blog.net

Castle Crashers has been one of the bright lights on Xbox Live Arcade since it was released last August. The stylized side-scrolling brawler offered a winning mix of solid action, quirky charm, and four-player co-op play. Unfortunately, PlayStation 3 owners haven’t been able to get in on the fun–until now. The Behemoth is taking the wraps off of Castle Crashers for the PlayStation 3 at Comic-Con today, and showing off the first playable version of the upcoming downloadable title. We paid the California-based developer a visit for a first look.

For those of you who aren’t already familiar with the game, Castle Crashers follows four knights as they head out to rescue their respective special ladies who’ve been princess-napped (a common problem in games). The road to rescue sends the knights up against hordes of enemies but, with teamwork, a little help from their animal friends, a variety of different weapons, magic, and some leveling up, a happy ending is guaranteed. The game takes a light action-RPG approach to the head busting by letting you earn experience and level different stats on your knight, such as strength, defense, agility, and magic. The end result on the Xbox 360 was a fun game that got even better when you played co-operatively with friends online. As a bonus, the Behemoth also included an arena to fight with friends and a food-gorging minigame.

All of the above is on its way to the PlayStation 3, with the appropriate tweaks, such as trophy support, for Sony’s platform. The Behemoth isn’t offering much in terms of information on exclusive content for the PlayStation 3 game beyond saying that it’s still to be determined. The air of mystery also extends to the game’s release date, which the team is keeping quiet about for the moment. The best we could get out of them was that they’re working to get the game out as soon as they can and that development is going well.

As far as how the PS3 game looks and plays, the demo that we checked out was already running well and certainly looked to be on par with the Xbox 360 game. The action is smooth and responsive, and the colorful visuals look as crisp as ever. From the look of things Castle Crashers should be a good addition to the PlayStation Network library. A straight port of the Xbox 360 game will be a lot of fun, but we’re hopeful that the PS3 version might also benefit from some additional content. Look for more on Castle Crashers for the PlayStation 3 in the months to come.

No Splinter Cell planned for PS3.

Source: ps3blog.net

scc
Kikizo has an interview with Ubisoft, the developer behind Splinter Cell: Conviction, which is currently a XBOX360 exclusive. They are pitched the question of developing the game for the PS3 and reply interestingly..

Kikizo: So it’s nothing to do with the project being native to Xbox 360, and porting to the PS3 being too much hassle – it’s entirely a question of business.

Masters: Absolutely, yeah. Ubisoft as a company now has a lot of experience with PS3. Our processes, tools, techniques are very well-developed – we could absolutely execute on the PS3 if we had the opportunity, but like I said it was a business decision.

Seems bizarre to me after Ubisoft made great multi-platform titles like Far Cry 2 and Prince of Persia so I see no reason why they don’t invest in the Playstation platform further. I hope there is another reason for this and isn’t the trend for future Ubisoft titles. The full interview can be read here at Kikizo.

When It Comes to Cool Collectibles…

Source: ps3blog.net

t00op3.jpg

…Nothing comes close to this! United Cutlery will be producing these collectible God of War Blade of Chaos replicas. Selling for the low, low price of $123.99! Like we can afford it haha! Anyway, the pic is just an artist’s rendition, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it looked exactly like that. It comes with the wooden stand as well (not sure if it will come in a glass case though). Here’s some info about the ’sword’:

This authentically detailed sword is an exact replica of the pair wielded by Kratos in Sony Studios’ hit video game series “The God of War.” United Cutlery, the industry leader in movie and game collectible replicas, has meticulously re-created the sword. The blade is cast from zinc aluminum material with custom etched mold textures and features fantasy grindings that mirror the piece carried by Kratos. The replica was created using the finest grade materials and craftsmanship available. Also included is a custom tabletop display stand with God of War insignia and fantasy silkscreen along with a certificate of authenticity. As with all United Cutlery collectibles, close attention to quality is a top priority. The design of The Blade of Chaos was overseen by master replica supervisor, Kit Rae. Each replica is laser-serial-numbered and marked with the appropriate copyrights to ensure authenticity.

Pretty cool I think, but I wouldn’t buy it. Not much of a collector, but those who like to collect these kinds of things, I think it’d make a pretty neat addition! Available here for pre-orders!
