Igarashi considering 2D Castlevania WiiWare title

Source: infendo.com

First WiiWare got Mega Man 9. Then it got Gradius Rebirth. And today it might get… Castlevania? Sure, why not! Castlevania guru Igarashi said as much in interviews with MTV and Wired this week, and I for one welcome yet another return to our roots, should it come to pass.

“I’m definitely interested in WiiWare and I think it’s one of the areas that 2D can still be very strong at,” Igarashi told MTV Multiplayer. In a separate interview with Wired’s Game|Life blog, he also noted that he’s watching Capcom’s decidedly retro Mega Man 9 “very closely” to see how it’s received once it debuts later this year, noting that “if it is successful that definitely opens up doors for what I can do.”

Given the cult following the 2D Castlevania series has accumulated on the Nintendo DS, this isn’t much of a surprise, but it’s welcome nevertheless.
