Diablo 3 may have been in development for the past five year, all signs point to the action-RPG being well underway. Let’s take a look at some of these signs.
2003: Blizzard North’s remaining personnel was relocated to Irvine and are working on an unannounced project, widely believed to be a new game in the popular Diablo franchise.
2004: Blizzard starts hiring new developers, as the job openings states “looking for a talented and experienced game designer to work with the developers of Diablo and Diablo II.”
BlizzCon 2005: A Diablo MMO was rumored to be revealed.
May 2006: Blizzard bought a few foreign Diablo domains.
October 2006: Diablo: The Sin War author has said
“I ain’t writing for a dead game… but a world with dead. ’nuff said!”
BlizzCon 2007: Blizzard Chief Operating Officer Paul Sams confirmed there were three unannounced projects. Now we know Starcraft 2 was one of them. The second unannounced game is a yearly World of Warcraft expansion. Also confirming was Itzik Ben Bassat, Vice President Business Development and International for Blizzard, who said “Don’t forget that we have two more franchises that we love - Diablo and StarCraft. We haven’t forgotten that we have these two franchises, and what I can tell you is that I look forward to stand here in a few years, or whenever it’s going to be, and celebrate with you the launch of the next StarCraft or the next Diablo.â€
Blizzard fansite Starcrafttwo finishes the wrap up with the most recent rumor about a Diablo film for which Gary Whitta could be writing a screenplay for Legendary Pictures to produce a Diablo film.
