Love it or hate it, you have to admire the attention to detail that went into creating the world of Shenmue. Walking around the various locations of Shenmue 1 and 2, you have no doubt thought to yourselves, “Is this a real life location?”.
Well think no more. We can now safely say that the main bulk of Shenmue 1 (at least) is most certainly a real life location, and the areas in Shenmue have been recreated to resemble them. And a pretty darn good job of it, I’d say, Yu Suzuki and his team have done.
A chap named ‘Tatsujin’, over at the Assemblergames forums, has recently posted up some pictures of his visit to the real life location of Yokosuka, more precisely Dobita, Ryo’s home town. Here are just a few, maybe you recognise them?
Note: I have made them all thumbnails- because they are pretty large, so just click on them to see a full size image.
So the crazy street lamps from the game are real!
Recognise those steps?
Hey! I’ve seen those stores somewhere before!
Anyone else getting the urge to drive a forklift truck?
